The Commodity Manager is responsible for the strategic purchasing of electrical components, including but not limited to fuses, switches, harnesses and cables. Through individual contributions, cross functional influencing, and technical knowledge, the Commodity Manager builds and executes a supply chain roadmap for a category of parts. Concurrently, the Commodity Manager has daily responsibility for purchasing their commodities directly. The Commodity Manager identifies and leads initiatives to reduce cost and increase service while ensuring product availability. Through demonstrated knowledge, the Commodity Manager will serve as an expert resource to the buyers, engineers, senior management, and peers. This role reports to the Material Procurement and Freight Manager. • *This position resides at our corporate headquarters in Livermore, CA. Selected candidates may be offered relocation assistance at time of offer.** Key Responsibilities • Develop commodity roadmaps that align business requirements with industry and supplier capabilities • Identify, evaluate, select, and integrate new suppliers and technologies • Manage supplier relationships and be primary point of contact • Continually educate self and others on market trends, cost drivers, technical improvements, and competitive landscape • Negotiate, plan and place purchase orders • Maintain optimum inventory levels in support of Production and resolve all issues related to assigned commodities • Work closely with Engineering to influence technical design decisions to meet business objectives • Ensure the continuous improvement of quality, service, and total cost in support of business needs • Negotiate pricing, vendor agreements, contracts, and other legal documents Requirements • BA/BS or equivalent work experience • 8+ years’ experience in an electrical component procurement or supply chain role • Desire to share deep technical knowledge on given commodity • Strong problem-solving skills, organization skills, and attention to detail • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain processes Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of lean principles • Proficient in use of Syteline MRP system • Previous experience as a Commodity Manager is the largest and most dependable manufacturer of Heavy Duty Transit Buses in North America.
